Xiaomi is reportedly testing OmniVision’s new OV50X 1-inch main camera sensor for its upcoming flagship, potentially the Xiaomi 16 series, in a bid to compete with top-tier smartphones.

The OV50X is a 50MP sensor featuring 1.6µm pixels and supporting 10/12/14-bit RGB RAW output. It incorporates PureCel Plus-S technology and 100% Quad Phase Detection (QPD). The sensor was initially rumored for the Pura 80 series, formerly known as the Huawei P80, but Huawei ultimately opted for a SmartSens lens instead. This development was hinted at by DigitalChatStation.

The key features of the OV50X sensor include in-sensor zoom for detailed macro shots and enhanced image/video quality, delivering a flagship-level imaging experience. Its QPD system provides swift and accurate autofocus, even for moving subjects. Furthermore, it employs LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) and superior Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) fusion to produce clearer and more detailed images in low-light conditions.
