Microsoft released Build 26220.8925 to Windows Insiders in the Beta channel on July 21, 2026. The update introduces enhancements to the Start menu, touchpad functionality, and File Explorer.
The Start menu now offers options for both small and large sizes, section-level toggles for displaying Pinned, Recent, and All items, and the ability to hide the user’s name and picture. Additionally, the term “Recommended” has been renamed to “Recent” in the Start menu and its settings page.
Improvements to touchpad functionality include the ability to control scroll and zoom speed and the introduction of accelerated scrolling for faster navigation through long documents. Microsoft also redesigned the Windows 11 Account Control flyout, adding a clearer subscription badge.
File Explorer received updates that enhance accessibility features, including improvements to the Narrator and braille display support. The display of file sizes in the Details view now shows appropriate units such as KB, MB, and GB.
Microsoft stated that the ability to move the taskbar to different screen edges remains unavailable in the Beta channel. The company is “working on getting all flights back on track” with the Windows Insider Program.
This update also fixes an installation issue for recent Insider flights that previously returned error 0xc0000409.
