WhatsApp has rolled out a message translation feature for its over 3 billion users across more than 180 countries, starting September 23, 2025, for both Android and iPhone users, enhancing global communication.
To utilize the new feature, users can simply long-press the text they wish to translate, tap the “Translate” option, and then select the source and target languages. This functionality is available across various chat types, including one-on-one conversations, group chats, and Channel updates. Android users have the additional convenience of enabling automatic translation for an entire conversation, ensuring that all future incoming messages in that chat are translated.
WhatsApp has emphasized its commitment to user privacy by processing all translations locally on the device. This approach ensures that the company cannot access the translated content, thereby maintaining the confidentiality of user communications. At the time of its launch, the translation feature supports six languages on Android devices, namely English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. iPhone users have access to the feature in more than 19 languages. The company has expressed its intention to expand the range of supported languages in the future.
