WhatsApp has released version 25.22.79 of its macOS application, introducing a chat filtering feature for a limited number of users, as announced on August 26, 2025.
The update brings chat filters to the top of the chat list, allowing users to sort conversations into various categories. According to reports from WABetaInfo, these categories include “Unread,” “Favourites,” and “Groups.” This functionality mirrors what is already available on WhatsApp for iOS and Android platforms.
The new chat filters offer users a more streamlined way to manage their conversations. The “All” filter remains the default view, showing all chats. When users switch to the “Unread” filter, they see only chats with unopened messages. The “Favourites” filter enables users to mark specific contacts for easier access. Meanwhile, the “Groups” filter consolidates all group chats into one convenient location.
Prior to this update, macOS users had to rely on a separate button to view unread messages. The introduction of chat filters simplifies navigation, reducing the number of steps needed to find specific conversations. It is anticipated that the rollout of the chat filter feature to more users will continue over the coming weeks through updates from the App Store.
The WhatsApp for macOS 25.22.79 update is available as a 21.7MB download.
In related developments, WhatsApp is reportedly testing new features across its Android and iOS apps. These include a “Record Voice Message” feature for unanswered calls and a “Writing Help” assistant designed to offer writing suggestions. Additionally, the company is testing support for motion photos.
