WhatsApp is introducing a new “typing indicator” feature for group chats, initially spotted in the Android beta 2.25.20.17 version by WABetaInfo. This enhancement will display the exact number of participants currently typing within a group, addressing the previous limitation where only one person’s typing status was visible, making it difficult to ascertain how many members were active.
Unlike earlier iterations that required opening a chat to see activity, WhatsApp recently updated its interface to show “typing” directly in chat tabs for individual and group chats. The upcoming group typing indicator further refines this, offering real-time insight into group activity before a user even enters the conversation. This feature specifically applies to typing status and not audio recording. Currently in beta, it is expected to roll out to a wider user base soon.
