If your home address in Apple Maps or Google Maps is outdated or incorrect, you can easily update your information. This guide will teach you how to edit your home address for all Apple apps or for Google Maps directly on your iPhone.
Before you start, you will need an iPhone with the Phone and Google Maps apps installed. Follow these instructions to update your home location in both the native Apple Maps and the popular Google Maps applications on your device.
To update your address in Apple Maps, open the Phone app, which has a white phone icon on a green background. Tap the Contacts tab located in the bottom middle of your screen. Select your contact card, labeled My Card. If you do not have one, tap the plus icon to create it. Tap the Edit button in the top right corner to modify your contact information.
To edit your home address, tap the address field and make your changes. To add a new address, tap the green plus icon (+) and enter the details. Ensure the address is correctly labeled by tapping the blue text next to the address field and selecting home. To remove an old address, tap the red minus icon (‑) and then select Delete. Once you are finished, tap Done to save the changes. Your new address will automatically update in Apple Maps after a few moments.
To change your address in Google Maps, first, open the Google Maps app on your iPhone. Tap the Saved button, which you can find at the bottom center of the screen. Next, tap on the Labeled option in your list of places. Tap the three-dot menu icon next to the Home label. If you have not set a home address yet, tap the Home button itself. From the menu, choose Edit home.
Type your new home address into the search bar and select it from the dropdown list. If your address does not appear, tap Choose on map to pinpoint your location manually. To confirm the change, return to the main map screen and search for “Home” to see if it directs to the new location.
Keeping your home address updated is also useful for getting accurate travel times in your calendar events and for using voice commands with Siri to get directions home.
Ensuring your home address is correct in your mapping apps is more than just a matter of convenience; it streamlines many aspects of your digital life. With an accurate address, you can get one-tap directions for your daily commute, receive precise estimated times of arrival, and quickly share your location with friends and family. It removes the small but frequent frustration of having to manually enter your address every time. Furthermore, this information integrates with a wide range of other services on your phone. Ride-sharing apps, food delivery services, and even your calendar can pull this data to provide a smoother user experience. By taking a few moments to update your address, you ensure that dozens of different applications can function more efficiently, saving you time and effort in the long run.
