Anthropic offers Claude Fable 5 free for eligible subscribers until July 2026

Anthropic is offering paying subscribers a chance to access its latest AI model, Claude Fable 5, at no additional cost for a limited time. The promotion allows users on eligible paid plans to utilize Fable 5 without extra charges until July 19, 2026. However, access is not unlimited; once users reach a usage threshold, they must either start paying or switch to an alternative Claude model.

This promotion occurs amid increasing competition in the AI assistant market. Major players, including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic, are racing to attract users to their flagship models, frequently employing free trials or promotional access to boost adoption. Anthropic aims to give subscribers sufficient time to experience Fable 5’s features, hoping to encourage continued usage after the promotional period ends.

Eligible users on Pro, Max, Team, and premium seat-based Enterprise plans can access Claude Fable 5 at no extra cost during the promotion. Users will draw from their existing weekly usage quota instead of receiving a separate allowance. They can spend up to 50% of their weekly plan limit on the new model before triggering additional restrictions.

No activation or redemption is required. For users on eligible subscriptions, Fable 5 will appear in the model picker across supported Claude applications, including Claude Web, Desktop, Mobile, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude for Teams, and various enterprise solutions.

Anthropic has also extended a 50% increase in Claude Code weekly usage limits through July 19, aligning with the Fable 5 promotion’s duration. However, the free access is not available to all users; free-tier subscribers, usage-based Enterprise customers, standard Enterprise seats, and API users will not qualify for promotional access. API access to Fable 5 will continue to be billed separately at standard rates.

Once users consume 50% of their weekly allowance on Fable 5, they have two options. They can either purchase additional usage credits, which are billed separately, or revert to another Claude model, continuing to work within their remaining weekly quota. Importantly, usage of other Claude models counts toward the same weekly limit, meaning users who have already utilized much of their allowance may not receive the full 50% allocation for Fable 5.

For Enterprise customers, access rules vary based on seat type. Premium seats automatically receive promotional access, while standard seats require administrators to enable usage credits for Fable 5 availability. The promotion officially concludes at 11:59:59 PM PT on July 19, 2026. After this date, Claude Fable 5 will no longer be included in subscribers’ weekly plan limits, and those wishing to continue using the model will need to pay through Anthropic’s usage credit system.

This initiative reflects a broader trend in the AI industry, as companies move away from unlimited subscription models towards hybrid pricing structures that combine fixed monthly plans with pay-as-you-go options. Limited-time promotions like this allow users to sample new technology while providing providers with insights into real-world demand before making premium models a permanent paid option.
