At least 1,200 Ubisoft employees participated in a three-day strike from February 10 to February 12, 2026, primarily in France, with staff from the Milan office also joining, in response to the company’s recent layoffs and cost-cutting measures.
The union Solidaires Informatique, representing video game sector workers including those at Ubisoft and Blizzard, had called for strikes on January 27. The demands made by the union included a 10 percent salary increase across all pay scales and the adoption of a four-day work week.
Protesters gathered outside Ubisoft’s Paris headquarters, holding signs. One employee wore a Rabbids mask to conceal their identity during the demonstration, highlighting the sensitivity of the issues at hand.
Employee grievances encompass multiple issues. Ubisoft laid off hundreds of staff in 2026 and mandated a five-day return-to-office policy, which has been a point of contention among employees. One worker who publicly criticized the policy was reportedly fired, further exacerbating the tensions.
The company faced further challenges in software development. In January 2026, Ubisoft canceled six games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and confirmed closures of several studios as part of organizational restructuring. These decisions have significantly impacted the morale and job security of Ubisoft employees.
On February 12, 2026, Ubisoft issued a statement: “We understand these changes, particularly those affecting work organization, are generating strong feelings.” The company noted it had conducted discussions and information sessions at multiple levels since the announcements. These sessions aimed to explain the new organization and allow teams to voice questions and concerns. Ubisoft added that it “remains committed to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue with employees and employee representatives.”
