Ubisoft has confirmed the development of a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, releasing concept art featuring protagonist Edward Kenway on a boat.
The remake represents a substantial update with visual and gameplay upgrades comparable to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Reports state the game will cut all modern-day sections to focus entirely on pirate-themed action. This shift targets the core audience that praised the original’s naval combat.
Ubisoft recently stated a previously unannounced game would release by March 31, 2027. At that time, Black Flag Resynced had not yet been officially announced. The game could release sooner if development has been ongoing for years.
The announcement occurred as part of a franchise roadmap that included the next mainline entry, Codename Hexe. Ubisoft described Codename Hexe as a unique, darker, narrative-driven experience set during a pivotal moment in history. The roadmap outlines future content for the Assassin’s Creed series.
Clint Hocking left Ubisoft after a 20-year tenure as creative director of Codename Hexe. He was replaced by Jean Guedson, who served as creative director for the original Black Flag 13 years ago. Guedson now leads the development of the next mainline entry.
Ubisoft is a French video game publisher headquartered in Montreuil. The company trades on the Euronext Paris stock exchange. Assassin’s Creed is one of its longest-running franchises.
