Tesla’s Optimus Robot Gets AI Upgrade with Grok

Tesla’s Optimus robot has been integrated with xAI’s Grok AI assistant, featuring a voice-mode interface, as showcased in a video shared by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff on X.

The next-generation Optimus, distinguishable by its gold design and more human-like hands, was demonstrated interacting with voice commands, highlighting its enhanced capabilities. In the demonstration, Optimus exhibited a delayed response, requiring multiple prompts to initiate the task of retrieving a Coke from the kitchen. The robot moved slowly toward the kitchen, but the video concluded before the task was completed.

This demonstration signifies advancements from earlier Optimus prototypes, such as those presented at Tesla’s “We, Robot” event and the Tesla Diner. However, its capabilities may not yet align with Elon Musk’s vision of Optimus becoming Tesla’s primary product. Benioff praised Optimus as a potential “productivity game-changer” capable of “tackling human work for $200K–$500K.” This statement follows Salesforce’s recent reduction of 4,000 customer service positions, which are being replaced by AI agents.

Optimus remains a prototype, with production slated to commence in 2026. This demonstration occurred shortly after Tesla unveiled its fourth Master Plan, which emphasizes Optimus as a crucial future product. Musk has stated Tesla’s ambition to sell millions of Optimus units annually within four to five years.
