Tencent Edits Steam Page for “Light of Motiram” Game

Tencent has quietly updated the Steam page for its upcoming adventure game, “Light of Motiram,” following Sony’s copyright infringement lawsuit, which alleges the game is a “slavish clone” of Sony’s “Horizon” video game franchise.

The lawsuit, announced in July, claims that despite Tencent’s Polaris Quest studio being refused permission to license the “Horizon” intellectual property, they proceeded with the development of “Light of Motiram.” The game, revealed late last year, is a post-apocalyptic open-world survival crafting game featuring mechanized animal-like creatures that Sony states bear a significant resemblance to those in the “Horizon” series.

Although Tencent has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, updates to the game’s Steam page have been confirmed through SteamDB. These changes include the removal of several screenshots and trailers and the replacement of the original cover image, which featured a character visually similar to “Horizon’s” protagonist, Aloy. Promotional images on the Steam store have also been swapped out.

The game’s description has been revised as well. Previously, it highlighted themes of “colossal machines,” “advancing technology,” and “training Mechanimals.” The updated description now emphasizes survival challenges, stating, “Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face off against formidable bosses, every step is fraught with danger and requires courage. Only by overcoming the challenges of survival can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land.” This new description omits direct references to advanced technology or “Mechanimals.”

These changes coincide with Sony’s earlier announcement regarding an upcoming film adaptation of Guerrilla’s “Horizon” games.
