There’s no official Calibre app for Android, but users can still access their Calibre library on their Android devices through alternative methods such as Calibre Companion or BookFusion.

Before proceeding, ensure that the Android device and computer are connected to the same wireless network. Additionally, a separate eBook reader app like Moon+ Reader or FBReader is required if using Calibre Companion.

It’s worth noting that Calibre Companion is not a free app and costs $5.99. To avoid security risks, it should be downloaded from the official Google Play Store.

Two primary methods are available to sync Calibre books to an Android device. The first involves using Calibre Companion, while the second utilizes BookFusion and a plugin.

To use Calibre Companion, download and install it from the Google Play Store. Open the app, tap Continue, and then Allow to grant storage access. A separate eBook reader app, such as Moon+ Reader, FBReader, AlReader, or Universal Book Reader, should also be installed.

Launch Calibre on the computer, click the Connect/share button, and select Start wireless device connection. Allow access through the firewall if prompted. On the Android device, open Calibre Companion, tap Connect, and select Wireless Device.

In Calibre on the computer, select the desired books, right-click the selection, and choose Send to device > Send to main memory. Open Calibre Companion on the Android device, tap a book, and tap Read to open it in the chosen eBook reader.

Alternatively, users can opt for BookFusion. Download and install the free BookFusion app from the Google Play Store and create an account. Open Calibre on the computer, go to Preferences > Plugins > Get new plugins, and install the BookFusion Cloud & Device Sync plugin.

After restarting Calibre, go to Preferences > Plugins > User interface action, click BookFusion Plugin, and then Customize plugin. Click the link next to “Visit” to open the BookFusion website, sign in, and create an API key.

Copy the generated key, paste it into the API Key field in the Calibre plugin window, and click Ok and Apply. Click the BookFusion icon in the Calibre toolbar, select Sync all books or Sync selected books, and then click Start.

Open the BookFusion app on the Android device, tap a synced book, tap Download, and then tap Read.

If connection issues arise, troubleshooting steps can be taken. These include closing and reopening the apps, verifying that the computer and Android device are on the same Wi-Fi network, and checking firewall settings.

For users with large libraries, it’s recommended to sync books in smaller batches to prevent connection timeouts or slow transfer speeds.

By using tools like Calibre Companion or BookFusion, users can access their Calibre library on Android, carrying their entire digital reading collection without being locked into a specific ecosystem.

These methods bridge the gap between powerful desktop management and mobile convenience, ensuring that users can read their ebooks on any device regardless of format restrictions.
