Spotify has introduced a new AI-powered Taste Profile feature, allowing users to personalize content recommendations and potentially boost user satisfaction and engagement with its music, audiobooks, and podcasts.
This beta feature enables subscribers to directly influence the algorithm, providing a more tailored experience. The Taste Profile will initially be available to Premium subscribers in New Zealand in the coming weeks.
The feature presents a summary of users’ listening habits and includes a “Tell us more” prompt for user input, allowing them to specify preferences for more desired genres or indicate genres to exclude from recommendations.
Spotify’s AI technology can interpret ambiguous prompts, such as requests for upbeat music for marathon training or news podcasts for commutes, providing a more nuanced understanding of user preferences.
Gustav Söderström, Spotify’s co-CEO, announced the feature at SXSW, emphasizing that Taste Profile is an optional feature. This development follows other AI initiatives, including the Prompted Playlist feature released last month.
The Prompted Playlist feature allows users to generate playlists based on specific requests, such as songs from a particular television show, and underwent initial beta testing in New Zealand before expanding to users in the United States and Canada.
