Sony announces PS Plus price hike in Latin America

Sony has confirmed a significant price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions across all tiers in 15 Latin American countries, effective April 16, 2025, impacting millions of PlayStation users in the region.

The countries where the new pricing will take effect are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. This adjustment is set to impact all PS Plus subscribers in these nations, spanning new and current members.

In its official announcement, Sony attributed the price hike to “global market conditions.” The company stated that the changes are required to “continue offering high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription.” This rationale echoes previous adjustments made by Sony to their subscription service, indicating an ongoing response to shifts in the worldwide gaming industry and economic landscape.

The revised pricing structure applies immediately to new subscribers in the affected countries, while existing members will experience the change at the start of their next billing cycle after April 16, 2025. The new monthly, quarterly, and annual rates are as follows:

For PS Plus Essential, the cost will be $7.99 for one month, $20.99 for three months, and $64.99 for a 12-month subscription. PS Plus Extra will cost $11.99 for one month, $33.99 for three months, and $107.99 for a year. The highest tier available in these regions, PS Plus Deluxe, will be priced at $13.99 per month, $39.99 per quarter, and $124.99 annually.

These adjustments represent substantial increases: 12 months of PS Plus Essential will cost $10 more, PS Plus Extra will see a $14 increase for its annual plan, and PS Plus Deluxe will rise by $18 for the 12-month option. Notably, PS Plus Deluxe is offered in place of PS Plus Premium in regions where streaming PS3 games is not supported, meaning subscribers receive a reduced tier with fewer features compared to regions with full Premium access.

The timing of the price change coincides with the announcement that eight new titles will be added to the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium game libraries next week, including the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. This update continues Sony’s practice of regularly refreshing its games catalog to maintain the value of its subscription service.

PlayStation Plus is Sony’s subscription service providing PlayStation users with access to online multiplayer gaming, a selection of free monthly games, and exclusive discounts on digital content. In response to regional restrictions on streaming capabilities, Sony previously introduced the Deluxe tier for markets unable to offer full Premium services, and has periodically updated its offerings to adapt to market changes and subscriber needs.
