Snapchat is introducing storage limits and paid plans for its Memories feature, which allows users to save Snaps that originally disappeared after 24 hours, creating a digital archive of personal moments.

The platform announced that users with more than 5 GB of saved content will need to upgrade to a paid storage plan. Snap recognizes the challenge of transitioning from a free to a paid service but believes the new plans will provide value and enable continued investment in the feature.

The storage tier options available to users include a 5 GB free tier, a 100 GB basic plan, 250 GB with Snapchat+, and 5 TB with Snapchat Platinum.

Users who exceed the 5 GB limit will receive 12 months of temporary storage, giving them time to either subscribe to a paid plan or download their Snaps to alternative storage locations.

To export individual Memories, users can open Snapchat, tap the photo icon, press and hold desired Snap(s), select “Export”, and choose a download location.

For downloading all Snapchat data, users can navigate to Settings → My Data, select data type and date range, submit the request, and verify their email address. Snapchat will then email a download link for the complete Memories file.

Since its debut in 2016, users have saved more than 1 trillion Memories, demonstrating the feature’s popularity and significance in users’ digital lives.
