Snap Inc. is set to launch its first commercially available augmented reality glasses, named “Specs,” in 2026, as announced at the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2025 in Long Beach, California.

This significant development marks a shift for the company, following the release of its fifth-generation AR glasses, Spectacles 5, last September, which were limited to developers through a $99/month program. The upcoming Specs are expected to revolutionize the way digital experiences integrate with the physical world.

Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., expressed his confidence in the launch, stating, “We believe the time is right for a revolution in computing that naturally integrates our digital experiences with the physical world, and we can’t wait to publicly launch our new Specs next year.” Spiegel also described Specs as “the most advanced personal computer in the world.”

While comprehensive details about Specs are still limited, Snap confirmed that the AR glasses will feature “see-through Lenses that enhance the physical world with digital experience.” The company has invested over $3 billion in the development of AR glasses over the past 11 years.

In addition to the Specs launch, Snap shared updates on its Snap OS, including integrations with OpenAI and Gemini on Google Cloud. New tools for developers were also introduced, focusing on location-based experiences, such as the Fleet Management app, Guided Mode, and Guided Navigation.

Further announcements included forthcoming WebXR support in the browser and a partnership with Niantic Spatial, aiming to integrate Niantic’s Visual Positioning System into Lens Studio and Specs. This collaboration is expected to contribute to the creation of an AI-powered map of the world.
