Samsung has officially released the Odyssey OLED G6, the first gaming monitor to feature a 500Hz refresh rate, available for purchase on August 13 at $999.99.
The Odyssey OLED G6 is set to redefine performance expectations in the gaming monitor market, traditionally dominated by IPS panels for their higher refresh rates. Samsung positions the G6 for users demanding “peak performance across long gaming sessions” with its 500Hz refresh rate. However, some experts, including PCMag, suggest that most users may not perceive a substantial difference beyond the 240Hz mark.
The Odyssey OLED G6 boasts a QHD resolution (2,560 x 1440) with a 16:9 aspect ratio, an ultra-fast 0.03ms response time, and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It features two HDMI 2.1 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.4, supporting AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync technologies for smooth, tear-free gameplay. The QD-OLED panel is Pantone Validated and incorporates Samsung’s Glare Free technology to minimize reflections and enhance visual clarity.
In addition to the Odyssey OLED G6, Samsung launched two other monitors: the 37-inch Odyssey G7 and the 40-inch Odyssey G7. The 37-inch Odyssey G7 features a 4K curved 16:9 VA panel with a typical brightness of 350 nits and a 165Hz refresh rate, priced at $899.99. The 40-inch Odyssey G7 offers an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio, a 180Hz refresh rate, the same 350 nits typical brightness, split-screen capabilities for side-by-side gameplay, and content management features, retailing at $1,199.99. Both Odyssey G7 models are available from Samsung, Amazon, and Best Buy.
