Samsung has secured a contract to manufacture semiconductor chips for Hyundai Motor Company, following previous orders from major clients such as Apple and Tesla, thereby boosting its chip sector.

Samsung Foundry is set to produce millions of 8-nanometer autonomous-driving chips designed by Hyundai. The development of these 8nm chips is expected to be completed by 2028, with mass production beginning in 2030. Hyundai opted for the 8nm process due to its cost-effectiveness, as it offers performance comparable to 5nm chips.

The 8nm chips will be utilized across various models in the Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia vehicle ranges. Notably, a separate order for a 5nm autonomous-driving chip has been delayed until next year, with the 5nm chip intended for high-end vehicle models. This agreement is a significant part of Samsung’s efforts to diversify its semiconductor client base.
