Samsung is set to roll out its One UI 8.5 software update, introducing several new features, including automatic call screening and a screen privacy function, designed to enhance user experience and security.

The update will integrate a Pixel-inspired automatic call screening feature that automatically detects suspicious calls and provides a live transcript. This new system represents a significant change from the current manual Bixby Text Call, offering a more effective way to reduce interruptions and block robocalls by providing users with real-time information about incoming calls.

One UI 8.5 will also include a new privacy feature referred to as “Private Display” or “Privacy Display.” This feature is designed to limit screen visibility from side angles, thereby preventing others from viewing the screen. According to the available information, the feature may debut on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and could utilize Samsung’s ‘Flex Magic Pixel’ technology to achieve the desired level of privacy. Furthermore, a “Maximum Privacy” mode will be available, which aggressively dims the screen to provide enhanced privacy in public spaces.

The update is expected to bring a number of design and usability changes to the user interface. These changes include a more compact Settings page, making it easier for users to navigate through their device’s settings without being overwhelmed by the amount of information presented. Additionally, the search bar will be relocated to the bottom of the screen, facilitating easier one-handed access and improving the overall usability of the interface. Other visual updates include the addition of drop shadows, a floating back button, and overflow gradient effects, all of which are intended to provide the user interface with a cleaner and more visually appealing appearance.

One UI 8.5 will also deliver significant upgrades to smart routines through its integration with AI assistants such as Gemini or Bixby. This integration will enable users to create automated actions based on contextual triggers, allowing for a more personalized and responsive user experience. For instance, the system could be configured to automatically query traffic conditions after a device disconnects from a work Wi-Fi network, helping users plan their commute more effectively. Another capability includes having the AI assistant summarize long emails and present them as notifications, making it easier for users to stay on top of their communications without having to open each email individually.

Additional improvements expected in One UI 8.5 include the ability to use NFC for Quick Share transfers, making it easier for users to share files between devices. The update will also see the return of pollen tracking information, a feature that will be useful for users who need to monitor pollen counts for health or allergy reasons. A new option will allow users to temporarily disable the Auto Blocker security feature for tasks like sideloading applications or connecting to a PC, providing users with more flexibility when managing their device’s security settings. This feature will automatically reactivate after 30 minutes to maintain the security of the device.

One UI 8.5 is expected to launch with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026. Its release will follow One UI 8.0, which is scheduled to arrive with Android 16 and be compatible with devices such as the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Fold 7.
