Samsung has introduced the Digital Home Key feature within its Samsung Wallet, enabling users to unlock compatible smart doors with their phones, further expanding the wallet’s digital car key functionality.
The feature targets the smart home security market by providing a unified digital credential. It utilizes the Aliro standard, an industry-standardized communication protocol created by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), to ensure interoperability across different lock manufacturers. The rollout is designed to expand as compatible hardware becomes more widely available.
Woncheol Chai, EVP and head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics, stated that the company prioritizes trusted mobile experiences. “Through close collaboration with our partners and in alignment with the Aliro standard, Digital Home Key brings the same level of security and ease Samsung Galaxy users expect from Samsung Wallet to their homes,” Chai said.
Smart lock brands Nuki and Schlage will support the Digital Home Key. The feature is designed to meet EAL6+ security certification standards. Access requires biometrics or a PIN for authentication.
Users can remotely manage or remove the Digital Home Key via Samsung Find if their phone is lost. Samsung is rolling out the feature in select regions starting this month. The company plans to expand availability as compatible smart lock brands enter more locations.
Samsung Wallet is a digital wallet application for Galaxy devices that stores payment cards, digital keys, and identification. The Connectivity Standards Alliance is an organization that develops open standards for Internet of Things devices.
