Samsung Halts One UI 7 Update Rollout Globally

Samsung has halted the global rollout of the One UI 7 update for its Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 devices due to a “serious bug” that is causing issues with device unlocking.

The Android 15-based One UI 7 update was released last week after months of delays, but its rollout was paused worldwide after reports of the bug surfaced. According to well-known Samsung leaker Ice Universe, users in South Korea started reporting issues with unlocking their phones after the update, prompting Samsung to pull the plug on the rollout.

Ice Universe confirmed the halted update on social media, stating that a “serious bug” was found in the One UI 7 update after it began rolling out in several countries on April 7, followed by a US rollout on April 10. The issue was initially reported in the Korean Galaxy S24 series firmware, leading to the suspension of the push plan in all other countries, including China.

The bug is reportedly causing problems with device unlocking, with users of the official version of One UI 7 on the Korean S24 series finding that “they could not be unlocked normally in some cases.” Samsung urgently reviewed the firmware withdrawal in other countries, resulting in the pause of the One UI 7 update rollout globally.

Early reports suggested that the issue was limited to the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24 models, but more recent updates indicate that Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S24 variants sold in the US and other parts of the world are also affected. Tipster Tarun Vats noted that Samsung had removed the firmware from its OTA servers, and has now confirmed that the rollout has been paused for Snapdragon-powered models as well.

The pause in the One UI 7 update rollout has raised concerns among users that it may impact the rollout schedule for other older Galaxy devices, such as the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the issue or confirm halting the update, but users who have already installed One UI 7 are likely to receive a patch update to fix the bug.

The company has been contacted for confirmation and clarification on the reason behind the latest One UI 7 rollout snag. As this is a developing story, further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
