Samsung is developing One UI 8, based on Android 16, with an early development build providing insight into its potential features ahead of its expected debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
Even though One UI 7 is still forthcoming, Samsung is already working on the next major OS update, One UI 8. An early development build of One UI 8 has been glimpsed, giving an idea of what to expect once the update goes live later this year. It doesn’t appear that One UI 8 will be as massive an update as One UI 7, as two significant overhauls back-to-back are not expected.
One UI 8 is expected to bring the “Now Brief” feature to more phones beyond the Galaxy S25. “Now Brief” has been a notable feature, and its expansion to more devices will likely be welcomed by Samsung users. Log video recording will also be added to more devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 6, enhancing the camera capabilities of these phones.
The Quick Share feature in One UI 8 is set to improve with the addition of “Receive” and “Send” sections, enhancing visibility options. This change is anticipated to make sharing content between devices more intuitive and user-friendly. Furthermore, the quick panel might receive a design refresh, with extra shading on the toggles, potentially making the interface more visually appealing.
Apps with pop-out menus, such as the Gallery app, might see encircled menu options for improved visibility. This design change is expected to enhance the overall user experience by making menu options more discernable.
Previous rumors have hinted at additional features in One UI 8, including potential enhancements to multitasking, Samsung DeX controls, third-party widget support for the lock screen, and Galaxy AI features. While these features are not confirmed, they could further enrich the user experience if implemented.
One UI 8 is expected to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldable phones, which are likely to be announced at an Unpacked event this summer. Given the tight development timeline, significant changes to One UI 8 in just a few months are not anticipated.
