If you’ve forgotten your Apple Account password, this guide provides detailed steps to help you reset your Apple Account password using your trusted devices, the web, or Apple Support options.

Follow these methods depending on your device, access, or situation to regain access to your account securely. A step-by-step guide to resetting your Apple Account password is provided below.

To reset your password on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, or Apple Watch, open the Settings app on your device, tap your name at the top of the screen, and select Sign-In & Security. Then, choose Change Password and enter your new password twice. It must be at least eight characters long, including at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter, then tap Continue. If prompted, decide whether to sign out of other devices—do so if you suspect unauthorized access. You will receive an email notification confirming the update to your Apple Account.

If you are logged out or using a new device, tap Apple Account at the top in Settings, tap Sign in manually, and then tap Forgot password? and follow the on-screen instructions, which may involve entering a code sent to a trusted device.

To reset your password on a Mac, click the Apple menu in the top-left corner, select System Settings…, click your name, and then click Sign-In & Security. Click Change Password…, enter your Mac password to authorize the changes, type your new password twice, and choose whether to sign out on other devices. Click Change when finished.

To reset your password on the web, visit iforgot.apple.com, click Reset Password, enter the email or phone number linked to your Apple Account, and enter the code shown in the grey box and click Continue. If required, enter your phone number and click Continue. Check your Apple devices for a notification and click Reset Password on the device. Enter your new password, verify it by entering it again, and click Change.

If needed, you can also reset your password with Apple Support by opening the Apple Support app on a borrowed device or visiting an Apple Store, tapping Reset Password, and selecting Help Someone Else. Enter your Apple Account email or phone number and tap Continue, then follow the on-screen prompts, which may include entering a verification code sent to your trusted phone number.

If you have a recovery contact set up, contact them for assistance in resetting your password. Provide any requested information to your recovery contact, ask the recovery contact for the code they receive, and enter that code on your device and follow the steps to reset your password.

If all other methods fail, start account recovery by visiting iforgot.apple.com, provide the requested information about your account, and wait for Apple to process your request; you will receive an email, text, or phone call with further instructions. Follow those instructions to complete the recovery.

You can also change your Apple Account email on an iPhone or iPad by opening Settings, tapping your name, and selecting Sign-In & Security. Tap your primary email address, remove or change it as needed, following the prompts. On the web, visit account.apple.com and sign in, click Sign-In and Security, then Email & Phone Numbers, and click Remove next to the primary email and follow the prompts to add a new one.

After resetting your password, enable two-factor authentication if it’s not already active, and store your new password in a secure password manager to avoid future issues. Once you’ve successfully reset your Apple Account password, update it across all your devices to ensure seamless access.

Sign back into your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or other Apple devices using the new credentials, and verify that everything functions correctly, such as iCloud syncing or App Store purchases. Review your account security settings by going to Settings > your name > Sign-In & Security on your device.

Consider adding a recovery contact or updating trusted phone numbers to make future recoveries easier. If you changed your email, double-check that all associated services, like email forwarding, are properly configured. Monitor your account for any unusual activity in the coming days by checking your email notifications from Apple.

If needed, contact Apple Support for additional verification steps to fully secure your account.
