Oppo is set to launch its K15 mid-range smartphone series, succeeding the K13 lineup and skipping the K14 model due to tetraphobia, a cultural aversion to the number four prevalent in East Asian traditions.
The K15 series will comprise three models with different screen sizes, including a middle-tier variant featuring approximately a 6.5-inch display. The flagship K15 model is anticipated to be powered by Qualcomm’s forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, which is distinct from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Reports indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to score around 3.4 million points on the AnTuTu v11 benchmark, outperforming the anticipated 3.3 million points for the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Although it is projected to be lower than the rumored 4.4 million-point performance for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the chip is said to surpass the original Snapdragon 8 Elite released last year.
Oppo has not announced a launch date for the K15 series. However, the company aims to strengthen the K line’s position as an affordable, gaming-focused mid-range family, building on the success of previous K-series models like the K13 Turbo Pro.
