OpenAI has launched a beta version of its new Tasks feature for ChatGPT, enabling users to schedule one-time or recurring actions for the chatbot to perform at specified future times, bringing it closer to digital assistants like Siri and Google Assistant.

The feature became available on Tuesday to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro plans, who can activate it by selecting the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in ChatGPT’s model picker and entering their request directly. According to reports from The Verge, ChatGPT generates task suggestions drawn from ongoing conversations, though users must confirm each one before scheduling.

Once established, tasks appear as reminders that users can oversee within the chat interface or through a dedicated Tasks page accessible via the profile menu on the web version, displaying a complete list of active reminders and allowing quick edits or cancellations with minimal interaction. The system supports a maximum of 10 active tasks simultaneously.

OpenAI product manager Karina Nguyen outlined several practical applications in a post on X, including daily morning checks on stock prices, introduction of a new foreign-language word each day, and end-of-day summaries of AI-related news developments.

For non-subscribers, OpenAI confirmed that the Tasks feature will roll out to all ChatGPT account holders in the future, aligning with OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to expand ChatGPT’s utility beyond real-time interactions. The beta release marks a targeted enhancement to user productivity tools within the platform.

The announcement follows the feature’s internal testing phase, with adoption remaining limited to paid tiers as of January 14, 2025, and broader access pending further development.
