OpenAI to Launch AI-Driven Web Browser Soon

OpenAI is reportedly on the verge of launching its own AI-driven web browser in the coming weeks, following the debut of Perplexity’s Comet, according to a report from Reuters.

The creator of ChatGPT is said to be developing a browser that reimagines web navigation with AI at its core—similar to Comet and The Browser Company’s Dia. Instead of directing users to external websites, the browser may keep more interactions within ChatGPT itself. Reuters notes that the browser is expected to feature Operator, OpenAI’s AI web-browsing assistant, as a central component.

According to a previous report by The Information, OpenAI had been exploring the idea of building a browser to rival Google Chrome as early as 2024. Like Perplexity, the company likely aims to gain more direct access to user data and deliver unique browsing experiences without relying on Google’s ecosystem.
