This potential new platform would directly challenge Microsoft, which holds a substantial stake in OpenAI. According to The Information, citing a person familiar with the project, engineers at OpenAI experienced an increase in service disruptions that made GitHub unavailable in recent months. This prompted the decision to develop a new code-hosting platform. Employees have also considered making the code repository available for purchase to OpenAI’s existing customer base, potentially expanding its offerings.
