NVIDIA has released a significant update for its Shield and Shield Pro devices, Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2.4, marking the first substantial update in nearly a year, focusing on security and stability.

The update prioritizes security and stability over new features, updating security patches to January 2026. This release addresses several specific bugs, resolving a playback issue with Disney+, connection problems for third-party Xbox remotes after sleep mode, and a crash that inadvertently woke the Shield and connected CEC devices during sleep. The update also fixes frequent disconnection issues with third-party Bluetooth remotes and a crash that closed the Settings page when triggering NVIDIA Share.

In a recent interview with ArsTechnica, NVIDIA Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering Andrew Bell stated that the company has no plans to end support for the Shield soon and has “played with new concepts.” Bell indicated that a potential refresh, the first since 2019, would likely support modern video codecs including AV1, HDR10+, and the latest Dolby Vision profiles.
