Nintendo’s next console is finally hitting shelves on June 5th, priced at $449.99. A bundle including the new Mario Kart World will be available for $499.99.
Preorders for the Switch 2 in North America begin April 9th at select retailers, with European markets gaining access a day earlier on April 8th. Base pricing is set at £395.99 in the UK and €469.99 in Germany. Each console purchase includes Joy-Con 2 controllers, a Switch 2 dock, an HDMI cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a Switch 2 AC adapter.
The Switch 2 boasts a 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 4K upscaling dock for TV use, and redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers which function as a mouse. Internal storage has also been upgraded to 256GB, a significant jump from the original Switch’s 32GB.
The console will feature a larger 7.9-inch screen, redesigned Joy-Con controllers, and new games to accompany the new console. Mario Kart World will launch exclusively on the Switch 2 on June 5th and is set to deliver an open-world mode with dynamic atmospheric effects tied to in-game time and weather, plus support for up to 24 drivers per race.
Additional accessories include a Switch 2 Camera for video chats and a Switch 2 Pro Controller featuring customizable rear buttons. Nintendo also announced plans to bring GameCube games to the Switch 2 and upgrade past Zelda titles with Switch 2 Editions.
Since its 2017 launch, the original Nintendo Switch has sold over 150 million units. Recent releases for the original Switch include The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. A recent Nintendo Direct presentation focused on original Switch games.
Nintendo has expanded beyond gaming during the Switch era to include theme parks, feature films, a museum, an alarm clock, a streaming service, and a news app.
