Finally, Nintendo reveals what the mysterious “C” button on the Switch 2’s right Joy-Con is for: GameChat, a new in-console communication feature, was announced during the Switch 2 Direct.
GameChat allows Switch 2 players to communicate via the console’s built-in microphone, which features background noise filtering for clear calls. The feature also includes screen sharing, letting players broadcast their gaming to friends in group calls, even if they’re playing different games.
GameChat marks a significant advancement in Nintendo’s social gaming capabilities. Previously, Nintendo lacked a built-in voice chat feature; its prior attempt involved a mobile app for voice chat in select games, which proved cumbersome compared to standard console features offered by competitors.
