Nintendo Switch 2 Sells 5.82 Million Units Globally

Nintendo’s Switch 2 console has made a remarkable debut, selling 5.82 million units globally by the end of June, less than a month after its launch, setting a new industry record.

This impressive figure significantly surpasses the original Switch’s first-month sales of 2.7 million units, with the console exceeding 3.5 million units sold in its initial week alone. The unprecedented demand has led to supply shortages “in many countries,” prompting Nintendo to apologize for the inconvenience and pledge to increase production to meet the soaring demand.

The Switch 2’s record-breaking sales have cemented its position as the fastest-selling game console in history. This success has had a significant impact on Nintendo’s financial performance, driving Q2 (April-June) revenue to $3.8 billion, a substantial 132% surge compared to the $1.6 billion reported in the same quarter last year.

Nintendo is optimistic about the Switch 2’s continued success, forecasting sales of 15 million units by the end of March next year. However, a potential challenge has emerged in the form of a new 20% tariff on imports from Vietnam, announced by the US, which doubles the previous rate. As Vietnam is the manufacturing base for the Switch 2, this development has raised questions about potential future pricing or supply impacts.
