Nintendo’s new Switch 2 is getting social with the launch of a dedicated camera accessory. Dubbed the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, this add-on lets players video chat with friends directly through the console, opening new avenues for interactive gaming experiences.
The Switch 2 Camera, a standalone camera on a stand, is designed to sit neatly beside your TV. It works in tandem with GameChat, Nintendo’s new in-game chat system accessed via the “C” button on the new Joy-Cons.
During the Switch 2 Direct event, Nintendo showcased the camera’s dual functionality: displaying your face as an overlay on the game or showing a standalone video feed.
Select titles are already poised to leverage the camera. Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, for example, will let players see each other’s faces during gameplay. Select mini-games will also actively integrate the camera.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Camera will launch on June 5th, coinciding with the release of the Switch 2.
