Take control of your Android notifications by learning how to mute a group text, helping you silence unwanted conversations and reduce distractions across popular messaging apps.

Follow these methods based on the messaging app you use to quickly silence unwanted group chat alerts.

For users of Google Messages, the process is straightforward. Open the Google Messages app on your device, then tap the group chat you wish to mute. Tap the three-dots icon (⋮) in the top-right corner, followed by Group details, and then Notifications. To mute the conversation, tap Silent (the bell icon with a line through it). If you need to unmute the chat later, simply open the Notifications menu again and tap Alert.

Those using Samsung Messages can also easily mute group texts. Start by opening the Samsung Messages app and navigating to the Conversations tab at the bottom of the screen. Tap the group chat you want to mute, then tap the three-dots icon (⋮) in the top-right corner. Next, tap the bell icon in the lower-right area and choose Silent or go to Notification sound and select Silent. For temporary muting, tap Notification sound → Silent → pick a duration from the options.

WhatsApp users can mute group notifications by opening WhatsApp and navigating to the Chats tab. Tap the group chat you want to mute, then tap the three-dots icon (⋮) in the top-right corner. Select Mute notifications and choose the duration for muting, such as 8 hours, 1 week, or always. Confirm your selection by tapping OK.

If you’re using Textra, the process is similarly simple. Open Textra and tap the group conversation you want to mute. Tap the three-dots icon (⋮) in the top-right corner, then tap the bell icon. Select Mute notifications (or a similar option), and a confirmation message will appear indicating that the chat is now muted.

A pro tip for managing noisy groups is to customize your notification settings for individual contacts within the app. This allows you to prioritize important messages while keeping the rest silent.

Muting group texts on Android is more than just a convenience; it helps reduce distractions and notification overload, allowing you to focus on what truly matters during your day. By silencing irrelevant chatter, you prevent constant buzzes from draining your battery or pulling your attention away from work, family, or personal time.

Ultimately, these methods empower you to tailor your phone experience to your needs. Whether you’re in a meeting or just seeking some peace, muting group texts promotes better digital wellness by encouraging mindful use of messaging apps without completely disconnecting from conversations. Regular use of mute features can lead to less stress and more productivity, proving that small tweaks like these make a big difference in managing your digital life effectively.
