Motorola Razr to Feature Perplexity AI Assistant

Motorola’s upcoming Razr phone is set to feature Perplexity AI as a key component, with the company planning to announce the device on April 24th, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The news follows Motorola posting a teaser video of the Razr on social media, which showed the foldable device animating into the word AI. This emphasis on AI integration is part of a deal with Perplexity to feature its AI assistant alongside Google’s Gemini as an optional AI assistant on the Razr. Motorola will have a special user interface dedicated to Perplexity AI to encourage customers to try it, and the company will feature Perplexity in its marketing efforts.

Perplexity’s AI voice assistant is capable of handling tasks such as booking flights without requiring users to manually interact with apps. This functionality is part of the broader AI features that Perplexity is bringing to the Razr. Additionally, Perplexity is collaborating with T-Mobile’s parent company on a new “AI Phone” that will also utilize these AI agents.

Perplexity’s integration is not limited to Motorola devices; the company is also in early talks to bring its AI assistant to Samsung devices as an option for users. Although the status of these conversations is unclear, it is understandable why Perplexity would want to work out a deal to get its assistant set up as the default or an optional AI assistant on Galaxy devices. It’s worth noting that Samsung already uses Google’s Gemini as its default AI assistant and Google as its main search engine provider.

The potential expansion of Perplexity’s AI assistant to Samsung devices highlights the growing importance of AI in the smartphone industry. As manufacturers look to differentiate their products and offer more advanced features, AI is likely to play an increasingly significant role. Motorola’s decision to feature Perplexity AI on the Razr is a significant development in this trend, and the outcome of Perplexity’s talks with Samsung will be closely watched by industry observers.
