Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma has announced the next-generation console codenamed “Project Helix” in a post on X, confirming it will lead in performance and play both console and PC games.
The announcement follows Sharma’s appointment as Xbox CEO a few weeks ago, after former Xbox head Phil Spencer stepped down. A delay of the PlayStation 6 could give Microsoft a few years with new hardware ahead of Sony. Last year, Microsoft’s gaming brand faced a rocky period, and the executive shakeup did not resolve the challenges.
Sharma’s post confirms previous rumors regarding the console’s capability to play PC games. She indicated the hardware is designed to lead in performance benchmarks. Developers and partners will join the discussion at the Game Developers Conference next week to review system specifications.
Microsoft has not released specific hardware details or a launch timeline for Project Helix. The company will likely provide further technical specifications during the GDC presentation. Analysts will watch for details on how the system bridges console and PC architecture.
Sharma stated she will discuss the system at the Game Developers Conference next week with partners and developers. Microsoft launched the original Xbox console in 2001. The company’s gaming division has faced recent market pressure from competitors. Sony has not officially confirmed a release date for the PlayStation 6.
