Microsoft is rolling out a preview of its Recall feature to Windows Insiders, a feature that captures screenshots of user activity on Copilot Plus PCs to help users find information later.
According to a blog post published Thursday, Microsoft is starting to make this long-delayed feature available to Windows Insiders, potentially indicating that the company is nearing a wider launch. Microsoft initially planned to launch Recall alongside Copilot Plus PCs in June, but security concerns raised by experts prompted a delay. A subsequent planned launch in October was also postponed to ensure “a secure and trusted experience.”
Recall was previously made available to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel for Qualcomm Copilot Plus PCs in November, with previews later released for Intel- and AMD-powered Copilot Plus PCs. After testing the feature for a couple of weeks, a colleague noted that Recall is “creepy, clever, and compelling.”
Microsoft emphasizes that users must opt-in to saving snapshots with Recall and can pause the feature “at any time,” providing control over their data. This clarification comes as the company prepares for a potentially broader rollout of the feature, addressing previous concerns around security and user trust.
