Microsoft is enhancing its Teams platform with AI agents to improve collaboration, announcing the integration on September 18, 2025, initially available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users, and extending functionality to SharePoint and Viva Engage.
The update introduces facilitator agents that join Teams meetings to automate tasks such as generating agendas, taking notes, and responding to questions in real-time. These agents also propose time allocations for discussion topics and alert participants if sessions overrun. Additionally, they can create associated documents and tasks, with a mobile-optimized version allowing activation with a single tap to capture insights from impromptu conversations or in-person meetings.
Channel agents focus on Teams channels, drawing from historical conversations and meetings to answer queries and produce project status reports. Community agents within Viva Engage, Microsoft’s enterprise social networking tool, assist community administrators by fielding user questions and fostering engagement across company-wide networks.
Behind the scenes, knowledge agents operate in SharePoint, automatically organizing, tagging, and summarizing files to streamline content management. While facilitator agents are now live, features like document and task creation remain in public preview. The other agents—channel, community, and knowledge—are also in preview stages.
Alongside the agents, a redesigned Workflows tool enables users to build AI-driven automations for routine tasks. A new feature generates audio recaps from meeting notes, further boosting productivity. This expansion positions Microsoft Teams as a more intelligent hub for workplace communication and collaboration.
