Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of Experiences and Devices, has announced his retirement after more than 35 years at the company, effective July 1, and will remain in an advisory role thereafter.
Following Jha’s departure, four executives from his team will be promoted to executive vice president and report directly to CEO Satya Nadella, distributing Jha’s responsibilities across the Office, Windows, and Copilot business units. This reorganization reflects a shift in Microsoft’s leadership structure rather than a single succession plan, as the company will not appoint a direct replacement for Jha’s position.
The promoted executives include Ryan Roslanksky, who serves as Office EVP and LinkedIn CEO, Pavan Davuluri, the president of Windows and Surface, Charles Lamanna, the president of business and industry Copilot, and Perry Clarke, the chief of Microsoft 365 Core. These executives will lead their respective divisions under Nadella’s direct oversight.
Jha oversaw key products including Windows, Office, and Teams during his tenure. He stated that he planned his succession alongside Nadella for some time, describing his long career at Microsoft as an “incredible privilege.”
Satya Nadella praised Jha’s leadership in a statement, saying Jha stands firmly among the leaders who have shaped the company and embodied the commitment that helped build and transform Microsoft.
Microsoft has experienced other high-profile executive departures this year, including former Xbox chief Phil Spencer, who left last month alongside his expected successor Sarah Bond. Jha’s retirement adds to the list of leadership changes at the company.
