Microsoft has expanded its game streaming capabilities to include 1440p resolution on Xbox consoles, enhancing the Game Pass experience for subscribers. This development marks a significant improvement in the service’s streaming quality.
Game streaming is a key benefit of Game Pass, and as of 2025, it includes games that players own outside the Game Pass library. The 1440p streaming option is now available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One X, and Xbox One consoles, provided the game and display support this resolution. Previously, 1440p streaming was limited to select Fire TVs, LG TVs, Samsung TVs, web browsers, and the Xbox PC app. Currently, this feature is restricted to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, highlighting Microsoft’s focus on enhancing the premium experience.
In addition to the improved streaming resolution, Microsoft is enhancing the Xbox PC app with the introduction of “navigation sounds” for controller input. This update aims to improve responsiveness, making the overall gaming experience more engaging and interactive.
Microsoft is also focusing on improving the gaming experience on handheld devices, specifically the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X. The company is making it easier to format removable storage on these devices and is rolling out driver updates to enhance game compatibility. These updates demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to ensuring a seamless gaming experience across various platforms.
In a significant leadership change, former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced his retirement. Asha Sharma, President of Microsoft’s CoreAI division, has been appointed as his replacement. Opinions are divided on whether Sharma’s appointment will benefit Xbox, and further changes are expected in the future.
