Meta has transformed user feedback on Threads’ recommendation algorithm into a new feature, allowing users to fine-tune their feed in real-time. The development comes after users criticized the algorithm’s selections since Threads launched.
The new “dear algo” feature enables users to adjust their feed by starting a post with the phrase “dear algo” followed by their preferred content. For instance, users can write “dear algo, show me more posts about cute cats” or “dear algo, stop showing me posts about sick pets” to reduce unwanted topics. This user-driven approach allows individuals to personalize their experience on the platform.
All user requests appear in the app’s settings, where they can review, revisit, or delete individual entries. Additionally, users can repost other people’s “dear algo” posts, influencing their own recommendations. According to Meta, each request remains active for three days, after which it expires to maintain the algorithm’s freshness and flexibility.
The “dear algo” feature follows a limited test conducted late last year and is currently rolling out to Threads users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Meta plans to extend the rollout to additional regions in the future.
