Meta Tests Clickable Links in Instagram Post Captions

Meta is testing clickable links inside Instagram post captions for subscribers to its Meta Verified service, potentially altering how creators share off-platform content.

The test could change the way creators interact with their followers on the platform, as Instagram has historically restricted links to Stories, Reels, and user profiles. This limitation previously led to the creation of an industry of “link in bio” platforms such as Linktree, which helped users work around the restriction.

Blogger Andrea Valeria spotted the feature and posted screenshots of a clickable Substack link in an Instagram post. According to an in-app message, users can share up to 10 links per month. Meta confirmed to Engadget that it is testing links in captions for Meta Verified subscribers, although the company did not provide details on the number of users with access or a wide rollout timeline.

The clickable link appears on Instagram’s mobile app but not when viewing the same post on Instagram’s website. If widely implemented, the feature could change creator-follower interactions, though the 10-link monthly limit may still require “link in bio” solutions for users who need to share more links.

Meta has also tested restricting link-sharing on Facebook to Meta Verified subscribers. Meta Verified for creators starts at $14.99 per month, with the most expensive plan costing $499.99 per month.
