Mafia: The Old Country, the latest prequel in the storied franchise, is set to launch with both Quality and Performance modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, giving players a choice between enhanced visuals or higher frame rates.
Developer Hangar 13 confirmed the availability of these modes via social media, following persistent fan inquiries after the PC specifications were revealed. According to Hangar 13’s statement, “On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Mafia: The Old Country will have both Quality and Performance modes at launch, with the game running at an average 60fps in Performance Mode.” The studio further advised that players who want to prioritize higher resolution and visual fidelity should select Quality Mode, while those who prefer to prioritize framerate should select Performance Mode.
In addition to the console features, PC players can expect extensive features, including an uncapped framerate, anti-aliasing and upscaling support, and remappable keyboard inputs. The game integrates frame generation technologies like AMD FSR, NVIDIA DLSS, and Intel XESS, alongside HDR support, accessibility options, ultrawide monitor compatibility, and V-Sync for optimized performance.
The announcement coincides with IGN’s ongoing IGN First coverage of the game, which includes gameplay previews and interviews with Hangar 13 studio president Nick Baynes and game director Alex Cox. Their discussions explored the series’ return to linear storytelling, design inspirations, and quirky elements like the abundance of fruit in the game world.
