The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature the same screen sizes as their predecessors, but upgrades to their displays are expected in two significant ways. Apple is rumored to be implementing advanced LTPO+ technology and reducing the size of the Dynamic Island cutout.
LTPO technology has been integral to the iPhone’s Always-On and ProMotion display features. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to transition to the more advanced LTPO+. This new technology enhances the conventional LTPO by applying oxide materials to both switching thin-film transistors (TFTs) and driving TFTs. This change enables more precise current control for OLED light emission, optimizing display operation based on environmental conditions and user settings, which is anticipated to improve battery efficiency.
LTPO+ is expected to reduce screen flickering in low-light scenarios due to its responsive adjustments and enhance power efficiency. Consequently, users of the iPhone 18 Pro should experience more consistent display performance with lower battery consumption.
Additionally, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are anticipated to feature a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, increasing the usable screen area slightly. Reports suggest that the new Dynamic Island will be approximately 35% smaller than the cutout on the iPhone 17 Pro. This reduction is hinted at in the new design of Siri within iOS 27.
The Dynamic Island was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. Although software features related to the Dynamic Island have evolved, the physical cutout size has remained the same. With the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple appears to be progressing toward a display design with minimal or no cutouts.
