Anticipation is building for Apple’s iPhone 17 series, expected to be officially unveiled in September, with latest rumors suggesting a significant upgrade across the entire lineup, featuring high refresh rate displays in all four models.

However, it appears the standard iPhone 17 may differ from its Pro counterparts. Reports indicate the base model’s screen will not support a variable refresh rate, as it is not expected to utilize an LTPO OLED panel.

Adding to the leaks, insights from Digital Chat Station on Weibo point to impressive performance boosts for the upcoming A19 Pro chip, slated for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The chip is rumored to achieve single-core scores exceeding 4,000 and multi-core scores above 10,000 in Geekbench 6.

Compared to the A18 Pro chip found in the current iPhone 16 Pro Max, which netted scores of 3,490 and 8,606 in single and multi-core tests respectively, this represents a projected 15% jump in single-core performance and a 17% increase in multi-core performance.

The A19 Pro is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s N3P process. This same advanced node is rumored to be selected for the forthcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chips. With all three processors anticipated to launch in the same month, the competitive landscape in the mobile chip market is poised for an interesting period.
