NVIDIA launched the Synthetic Video Detector at SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles on July 21, 2026. The detector is part of NVIDIA’s NIM microservices and aims to assist newsrooms and broadcasters in identifying AI-generated videos.
The Synthetic Video Detector can analyze 1080p video in as little as 22 milliseconds on NVIDIA RTX systems. It achieves up to 92% accuracy on uncompressed video, 87% accuracy on video compressed by 15%, and 82% accuracy on video compressed by 50%. The announcement coincided with the annual SIGGRAPH conference, which ran from July 19 to July 23, 2026.
The detector analyzes videos frame by frame and produces a classifier score indicating the probability that a clip is synthetic. NVIDIA plans to integrate the Synthetic Video Detector into Wowza’s Intelligence Video Framework, which has over 35,000 deployments across 170 countries. Wowza announced its Video Intelligence Framework on July 20, 2026, embedding the detector for real-time authenticity checks.
The detector focuses on low-level statistical and frequency-domain traces characteristic of generative video pipelines. NVIDIA stated that the tool is designed to complement existing editorial verification processes rather than replace them. The latest version of the detector ranks at the top of the AI GVD Bench, an industry benchmark for synthetic media detection systems.
NVIDIA acknowledged that human oversight, source verification, and contextual reporting remain essential in the verification process. As generative AI continues to evolve, the importance of reliable detection tools increases in the fight against misinformation.
