Instagram Launches Watch History Feature for Reels Users

Instagram has introduced a new Watch History feature, allowing users to revisit previously watched Reels, mirroring YouTube’s Watch History and responding to user requests for easier access to past content.

To access the feature, users tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner of their profile screen, then select Settings > Your activity > Watch history. It appears under the “How you use Instagram” section and provides tools to search for watched Reels.

By default, the feature displays Reels viewed in the past 30 days. Users can sort these from oldest to newest or newest to oldest in the first tab. The second tab offers date-based filters: All dates as the default, Past week, Past month, or a custom date range to locate Reels watched during a specific period.

The third tab enables searching for Reels by the original author’s account. This allows users to filter content based on the account that shared it. Additionally, users can select individual Reels and remove them from their Watch History list.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained the rollout in a post, stating, “So, now hopefully you can find that thing that you were trying to find that you couldn’t find before.” The feature supports filtering by date, date range, or author account, enhancing navigation through previously viewed short-form videos.

Gadgets 360 confirmed the availability of Instagram’s Watch History for Reels on both Android and iOS devices. This update builds on Instagram’s efforts to improve content discovery and user control over activity tracking.

The feature debuted amid growing demand for personalized history tools on social platforms. Users no longer need to scroll endlessly through feeds to rediscover Reels. Instead, the structured interface streamlines the process, with options tailored to different search needs.

Key highlights include the ability to revisit and find past Reels, precise filtering mechanisms, and selective removal capabilities. Instagram positions this as a direct enhancement to the Reels experience, making it simpler to engage with saved or remembered content.
