How to Get HM02 Fly in Pokémon FireRed

HM02 Fly is a game-changing ability in Pokémon FireRed, enabling quick travel to any previously visited city or location, saving significant time during adventures and revisits.

Before acquiring HM02 Fly, players must first obtain the Cut HM from the S.S. Anne captain and defeat the Vermillion Gym leader. They will also need a Pokémon that can learn Cut.

To get HM02 Fly, follow these steps: Reach Celadon City by taking the underground path in Route 8 to bypass the currently closed Saffron City. Exit Celadon City to the west to access Route 16, where a Snorlax blocks the path until the Poké Flute is obtained.

Upon entering Route 16, use Cut on the tree directly above. Continue west through the gatehouse and enter the small house on the west side, where a girl will give you HM02 Fly.

Open your Bag to the Key Items section, select the TM Case, and then choose FLY from the list. Select Use from the menu and teach Fly to a suitable Flying-type Pokémon from your party.

The Pokémon must be able to learn Fly, indicated by “ABLE!” next to its name. Fly will occupy one of the Pokémon’s move slots, so choose a Pokémon with a move you no longer need.

With Fly, you can quickly move between cities and towns you’ve previously visited. A map will appear when you use Fly, allowing you to select from visited locations. Note that Fly cannot be used to visit places not yet reached on your journey.

Consider teaching Fly to a useful Flying-type Pokémon like Pidgeot or Fearow to maximize convenience.

Having HM02 Fly drastically cuts down on travel time, allowing instant revisits to previous locations without walking or cycling through multiple routes.

This ability is invaluable for completing side quests, returning to Pokémon Centers, or reaching areas for item collection or Pokémon training, significantly enhancing gameplay experience and efficiency.
