Hideo Kojima has provided new details about his upcoming PlayStation exclusive, Physint, during a Kojima Productions 10th Anniversary event in Japan, revealing the project’s early development stage.

Kojima stated that he is currently working on the concepts by himself, including creating characters and considering casting choices. “It is just the start,” Kojima said during the presentation, highlighting the project’s nascent stage. The project received a video message of support from Herman Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group. Kojima described Physint as the next stage in the tactical espionage action genre, a category he is known for creating with the Metal Gear franchise at Konami. Hulst had first announced the collaboration on Physint in January 2024, with few details provided until this event.

No release window for Physint was given. Kojima confirmed it will follow the release of Kojima Productions’ other major project, the Xbox Game Studios exclusive OD. This places the release of Physint further in the future. In May, Kojima had told Le Film Francais that the game was “another five or six years” from release. This timeline suggests a potential launch in 2030 or later, possibly for the PlayStation 6. Kojima also stated his plans to direct a movie are on hold until he finishes development on his first action espionage game since his 2015 departure from Konami.

Kojima revealed that the technology for Physint will be more advanced than what is used for the Death Stranding games and OD, attributing this to its later development cycle. The specific game engine for the project was not disclosed. To demonstrate the expected visual quality, Kojima presented a CG shot featuring actress Minami Hamabe.

A debut poster for Physint was also unveiled, showing a shadowy character whose face is not clearly visible. The poster includes the tagline “here comes the feeling.” Kojima mentioned that an announcement for the main character’s actor will come in the future. He did, however, confirm three actors who will appear in the game. Each sent a video message for the event. The cast includes Charlee Fraser, who appeared in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga; Don Lee, known for his role as Gilgamesh in Marvel’s Eternals; and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe, who starred in Godzilla Minus One. The specific roles for these actors have not been announced.
