HBO Max Unveils New User Rating System Feature

HBO Max has introduced a new rating system, enabling users to provide feedback on its content by rating shows and movies as “Love,” “Like,” or “Not For Me,” which will be used to personalize recommendations.

The new feature, launched on October 22, 2025, allows users to rate content, influencing the streaming service’s suggestions. Titles marked as “Love” will be featured in a “Because You Love” carousel on the homepage, while those rated as “Not For Me” will be deprioritized. This development is part of HBO Max’s ongoing effort to enhance its homepage personalization, a process that began with testing the rating system last year. The functionality is comparable to Netflix’s thumbs-up, double thumbs-up, and thumbs-down options, providing users with a straightforward way to provide feedback.

The launch of the new rating system comes after parent company Warner Bros. Discovery announced its readiness for a sale, alongside a price increase for its streaming plans for the third consecutive year. The rating system is accessible on the HBO Max app across various platforms, including web, mobile, and smart TV. Users can rate titles either by clicking the “Rate” button on a title’s description page or by selecting an option after completing a viewing session.
