Google’s Gemini just got wilder on Android with Project Astra features

As promised at MWC, Google is rolling out Project Astra-powered features to Gemini Live, letting Android users share their screens and use real-time camera interaction. One Android user has already activated the Gemini overlay and found a “Share screen with Live” button.

The user also gained access to real-time camera capabilities, accessible by opening the full Gemini Live interface and starting a video stream. A button in the bottom-right corner allows switching to the front-facing camera.

This is a gradual rollout as Gemini Live utilizes a new phone call-style notification and a more compact fullscreen interface, which are not yet widely available. The initial report comes from a Xiaomi phone user who is also a Google One subscriber.

Google stated in early March that Astra would be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers (AI Premium, $19.99 monthly) and Android devices. Google mentioned in January that Pixel (and Galaxy S25 series) owners will be “among the first to get Project Astra capabilities like screen sharing and live video streaming.”

While there appears to be no technical limitation, Google has not yet discussed expanded support for iPhone. The Talk Live feature for photos, files, and YouTube videos is currently unavailable on iOS.
